Processing

By now, you are probably beginning to see connections between businesses that make up the crab industry. If one part of the business falls short, the other parts are affected as well.

Let’s hear about how the availability of workers impacted another processing business.

Concept Map

As you’ve seen so far, there are a number of factors that impact the crabbing and processing business including: the crab population, the market for harvested crabs, and the availability of workers.

These factors and what happens as a result are examples of cause and effect relationships. A cause and effect relationship shows how one event (the cause) makes another event happen (the effect).

Take a moment to examine some of the cause and effect relationships that impact the crab industry and how you can represent these relationships on your concept map.

Now add additional information to your concept map. Think about cause and effect relationships. If this happens, then that happens as a result. Look at the factors you identified that impact the industry. Try adding information to show the cause and effect relationship using if/then to connect ideas.
