What are the three states of matter?

Before diving into the parts of the water cycle, let’s review the three states of matter. Knowing these terms will help you understand more scientifically how water can transform on Earth! Yes, that means water can change shape and in some cases, it has no shape!

An illustration shows water in different states of matter. The first form of matter shows water as an ice cube representing a solid. The particles of a solid are closely grouped together. The second form of matter shows water as a liquid in a glass. The particles of a liquid are a little more spread out. The third form of matter shows water as a vapor and a cloud is pictured. The particles of a vapor are very far apart.
