Earth’s Water
About 71 percent of the Earth's surface is water-covered. In the Water Cycle lesson, you learned that water exists not only as a liquid in rivers, oceans, and lakes but also as a vapor (gas) in the atmosphere and as a solid in ice caps and glaciers. Water also exists in the ground which is called groundwater and it creates moisture in the soil.
Where else does water exist? Complete the first part of the interactive to see where water exists on Earth.
Water is fascinating because it can transform into a liquid, a solid, and a gas. Water cycling through the Earth’s atmosphere and onto the Earth’s surface is essential to all living things. Think about it. When it doesn’t rain for long periods of time, what happens? Complete the interactive to see how water moves on Earth.
