Supporting Inquiry
Analysis Tool
As you incorporate Inquiry Kits for Social Studies into the classroom, you can take advantage of some available resources that provide students with additional support. Students can use the Library of Congress’ Primary Source Analysis Tool to help them gather information from sources. Observation, reflection, asking questions, and further investigation are the four steps in the analysis process. Each step in the tool reminds students to dig deeper as they analyze sources as part of the process of inquiry.
You can prompt students through each step by reminding them to consider key questions. Click each box below to find analysis prompts to use in your classroom.
Scaffolding
It can be challenging to support a diverse group of students and meet all of their individual needs. That’s where scaffolds can help. Scaffolding assists students by providing them with additional structures to reinforce what they have learned.
Let's revisit Kristine Sieloff in the following video as she explains considerations for working with EL students. As you play the video, identify any new types of support that you can use to enhance student learning and comprehension.
