call and response:

an interactive musical feature wherein the leader first sings a phrase as the “call” and the group follows the leader singing a phrase in response.

chantey:

a work song performed by African Americans who worked aboard boats and ships, on the docks, and in other occupations connected to waterways.

concert spirituals:

spirituals arranged and performed (often in educational settings) using Western classical music styles, most often performed with minimal accompaniment.

folk spirituals:

early form of religious music created by African Americans during slavery (most likely in the 19th century) in the United States.

spirituals performed using accompaniment, chord progressions, rhythms, and vocal techniques associated with gospel music.

work song:
