Various ways to recycle and reduce waste
Objective
Determine effective ways to minimize human impact on the environment.
You probably know many different ways to positively impact the environment, such as recycling; donating toys; riding a bike or walking instead of taking a car; and turning off the lights and water when they’re not in use. But have you ever thought about reducing food waste by composting?
It’s estimated that 40% of all food in the U.S. isn’t actually eaten – instead it’s thrown out or otherwise wasted. As the human population grows, the issue of food waste becomes more and more critical. Notice the world around you: That piece of fruit or vegetable that you tried but didn’t like could be used to grow something healthy that you do enjoy.
Humans play an important role in protecting the environment. In this activity, you will learn about different types of composting and how this practice can help reduce food waste.
