Project-Based Learning with Technology (2 credits)

Provider: Johns Hopkins CTE

Graduate Credit NOT available for this course

What happens when teachers become more immersed in using technology effectively to promote thinking? Will they become less didactic and more constructivist? Will they lecture less and coach more? Will they be open to individual differences rather than expecting all students to learn the same information?

When used with project-based learning, technology can be powerful tool in the delivery and assessment of student learning and higher-level thinking. Teachers who transform the learning process with real-world topics and technology tools worthy of students' attention and effort make the shift from a teacher-centered to a student-centered learning environment. When students are excited about what they are learning, they are more likely to engage in a deeper search for ideas and solutions, expanding their interests in a wider array of subjects and making connections to apply their knowledge to new situations. In fact, research suggests that project-based learning has a positive correlation with increases in test scores, decreases in absenteeism, and reduced disciplinary problems.
