MPT Instructional TV: Elementary and Middle School
The nine Into the Book student episodes feature an extraordinary classroom where a group of ordinary students use powerful learning strategies to enter the world of the story. These 15-minute programs show student viewers how to use these strategies when reading fiction, nonfiction, or everyday text. They also model real-life applications of the strategies.
Shakespeare’s Globe
MPT Instructional TV: High School
This series provides an excellent introduction to the famous Shakespearean Theater. The stunning recreations celebrate the recent opening of the new Globe Theater in London, and show how stimulating Shakespeare's work can be when experienced in context. Hosted by popular comedian, Alan Davies, the programs feature both rehearsals and performances at the new Globe Theater in London, as well as snippets from BBC versions of other Shakespeare plays. Key themes of the series include the importance of theater as an agent of language change & development, rhythm, sounds, and structures in Shakespearean language, conventions of Elizabethan theater, social structures and concerns of the time.

MPT Instructional TV: Elementary, Middle and High School
A Child’s Bookshelf: Inside Children’s Literature is a two-part series hosted by Ann Curry of The Today Show. It features interviews with seven of the country’s most celebrated children’s book authors and illustrators including renowned poet, Jack Prelutsky and actor and author, John Lithgow.
Taped on location in the homes and studios of the authors, the shows feature extensive profiles of the artists at work. From the New York City studio of Caldecott winner, Chris Raschka to theToledo papermaking studio of Denise Fleming, the show offers a behind-the-scenes into the fascinating world of children’s books. Each show also features several families who have found creative ways to incorporate reading and literacy into their daily lives.

Connecting with authors often motivates students to do more reading and writing. By exploring websites dedicated to published authors, students begin to see authors as real people with both ordinary and amazing life experiences and writing as an exciting adventure as well as a structured process. This course is designed to help teachers advance their student’s skills in reading, writing, and communicating in different forms. Participants will explore and evaluate online author studies and the websites created by and for children’s authors. This fully facilitated, online course allows teachers to share ideas about children’s authors and have discussions about working online with elementary-aged students. Participants also create an author study related to their curriculum that is enhanced by the use of Internet resources.
