Think Geography-GIS Day

Celebrate National Geography Awareness Week and GIS Day. This year's theme is Migration: The Human Journey. President Ronald Reagan signed legislation in 1987 declaring every third week in November to be Geography Awareness Week.  This year’s celebration is the week of November 13-19, 2005.

Pathways to Freedom: Maryland and the Underground Railroad” 
Explore the connection between migration and the Underground Railroad. Where did slaves on the road to freedom migrate and what were the results of this migration?

Around the World in a Day - Students will learn about the growth of civilizations in the ancient world through viewing a video and then a teacher led discussion which uses a 10' X 20' world map.
American Masters – Following Muddy’s Trail - Learn about the Great Migration of black Southerners, such as Muddy Waters, to Chicago, and the relationship between geography, transportation, history, music, culture, and civil rights.
