Earth Day Internet Links

Earth Day Network
Earth Day Network was founded by the organizers of the first Earth Day (in 1970) and promotes “environmental citizenship and year round progressive action worldwide.
This website has an “ecological footprint quiz”, a lot of information on climate change, and resources for Earth Day organizers. In addition there are lesson plans for K-12 environmental education (you must register, but there is no fee) The direct link for that portion of the website is http://www.earthday.net/involved/teachers/join-Network.aspx

Kids Domain—Earth Day
This is a good website with history, games, activities, and more about Earth Day for elementary school students. There are a lot of pop ups.

Earth Day—US Government Portal
This site has links specifically for teachers and kids. They lead to links to resources for classrooms from EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) and NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration). There are also a lot of links for students to play games, do projects, and gather information.

Earth Day—brought to you by the Wilderness Society
This excellent website has the transcript of Senator Gaylord Nelson’s (the founder of Earth Day) answers to questions about the history of Earth Day. In addition it has curriculum materials for all levels, biographies of “planetary heroes” who have fought for the environment, and summaries of what Earth Day programs students have done.

Earth Day 2006 EnviroLink Resource Guide
This is an “online clearinghouse for environmental information” which lists any Earth Day event. You can view events, add your event to the calendar, access an Earth Day organizer’s guide or read the history of Earth Day.

Earth Day Groceries Project
“The Earth Day Groceries Project is a cost-free environmental awareness project in which students decorate paper grocery bags with environmental messages for Earth Day.” This site describes the project, explains how to get started, and has other information about the project and resources to make it easy to do.

Earthday.com
This is a website from grassroots.org, an organization with a definite point of view. This site links to sites with information about a number of environmental issues, as well as a site which allows you to monitor the issues which are before Congress.

Planetpals—Earth Day Kids Earth Day Recycle Activities Ideas
There are a large variety of Earth Day related ideas and information on this site.

Whale Times Earth Day
The Whale Times website has a lot of information about marine mammals. The Earth Day portion has short descriptions of what different students are doing and a place to enter your Earth Day project.

EcoKids
“EcoKids is Earth Day Canada's environmental education program for youth who care about the planet.” This site has puzzles, activities, games and projects for kids of many ages, as well as a link for teachers to find curriculum guides to use with the resources on the site. There is also a listing of Earth Day ideas. A truly excellent website.

Earth Day for Kids
This is a website with a book made by a first grade class and some early elementary level ideas and puzzles to celebrate Earth Day.

Earth Day Headquarters
This is a listing of Earth Day links, many of them from Earth Days of prior years.

CyberHunt Kids
This is a "quiz" for Earth Day that links to other sites for information and on line activities. A few of the links are broken, but the ones that are not are interesting, informative, and fun.

Earth Day Homepage—NASA/Glenn Research Center
In addition to the 50 page Children's Activity Book with activities to teach students (approximately upper elementary level) about features of the earth such as the water cycle, recycling and endangered species, this site contains links appropriate for students to many environmental-related sites. There are also links to websites with the history of Earth Day, as well as links to other eco-related sites.

Adopt your Watershed
"Fifteen things you can do to make a difference in your watershed." This is a listing of what to do as well as links to more information.
